Job Description

Merwin Optical is seeking a BC‑licensed Virtual Optometrist to join our innovative, technology‑driven practice. This role is ideal for an optometrist who enjoys delivering high‑quality care through a modern tele‑optometry model while maintaining the flexibility to work from anywhere within Canada.

About the Practice

Merwin Optical operates a thriving digital‑eye‑exam platform designed to increase access to timely, comprehensive vision care across Fort St. John and it’s surrounding towns. We are expanding our virtual clinical team to support our growing patient base and ensure seamless continuity of care.

With more than 6,700 active clients, a strong reputation for efficiency and service, and a fully trained support team—including two licensed opticians—you will be stepping into a well‑established system with consistent patient flow and administrative support. Our virtual workflow is streamlined, allowing you to focus on clinical decision‑making while our team manages patient intake, pre‑testing, and follow‑up coordination.

This role offers flexible scheduling, allowing you to choose hours that align with your lifestyle and availability.

What You’ll Do

● Conduct virtual eye‑care consultations and assessments for patients across Fort St. John

● Review digital exam data and diagnostic imaging collected by our trained in‑clinic staff

● Provide clinical recommendations, prescriptions, and referrals as needed

● Conduct virtual refractions using the Reichart Digital Phoropter and utilize the DigitalOptometrics platform for all data review and documentation (training available prior to joining)

● Collaborate with our opticians and support team to ensure excellent patient outcomes

● Maintain accurate and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with BC College of Optometrists standards

Why This Role Stands Out

● Work remotely from anywhere in Canada

● Flexible MST working hours

● Opportunity to be part of a forward‑thinking, hybrid care model

● Supportive team environment with efficient digital systems already in place

What You’ll Bring

● Valid and active British Columbia Optometry license in good standing

● Exceptional communication and patient‑education skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust in a virtual setting

● A positive, welcoming, and adaptable attitude, with enthusiasm for increasing accessibility in eye care through emerging technologies

● Comfort working within a digital‑exam model, reviewing diagnostic data and providing clear, patient‑focused recommendations

● Preferred: Minimum 1 year of experience in tele‑optometry

● Highly preferred: Experience with DigitalOptometrics workflows or training

● Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work independently while collaborating with support staff and opticians

● Commitment to maintaining accurate, compliant documentation in accordance with the College of Optometrists of BC standards

● Reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional environment suitable for virtual consultations

This position is perfect for optometrists seeking work‑life balance, supplemental income, or a modern practice environment that embraces innovation in eye care delivery.
